May 23, 2017 · The nRF8001 is a standalone device that requires an external microcontroller, but it runs the BLE stack internally, so much of the low level tasks are already managed. A Serial peripheral interface (SPI) is a very common, being easy to connect to most microcontrollers.

I'm considering starting a project on the Nordic Bluetooth Low Energy line, the nRF52 probably. It's an ARM m4 with a "soft device" (BLE stack) that runs on the same processor in restricted space.

Oct 02, 2017 · Note that Nordic’s qualification will only cover the BLE Controller, which means that whichever Host is used for a particular design will have to be qualified independently. In order to test the BLE Controller yourself and verify if it suits the needs of your future product, feel free to grab the 1.9 release and test it out!
