Eventually, the ISP realized their mistake and revoked his FOID card, but nobody followed up on the revocation.
In an emailed statement, Illinois State Police spokeswoman Beth Hundsdorfer said last year, 90 percent of applicants saw their paperwork processed in less than 30 days. She said it took an average of 65 days to renew a FOID card in 2019.

Today I called the number 217-782-7980 for the IL State Police FOID Card hotline and was on hold for 1 hour 32 minutes. I got a very nice live operator who advanced my status to background check, so hopefully that will expedite things a little more quickly.
